This spring, I had the joy of collaborating with a fantastic group of artists on a whirlwind creative challenge: the 48 Hour Puppet Film Project, produced by the Green Feather Foundation and led by Alex Griffin. The prompt? Create a brand-new short puppet film — from concept to final edit — in just two days.

The prompt for this year was - Spring, Look and Plant.

The result: Verdigris — a moody, visual poem created fully within 48 Hours from the bits and bobs we had laying around. Shot with just a handful of lights, hands, and a whole lot of improvisation, the film captures that strange alchemy that only happens when puppetry, pressure, and inventive artists collide.

Turn that sound on (headphones preferred) and buckle up.

The film was awarded both Best Editing and recieved an Honorable Mention.

Our team:

Sean Cawelti, Christine Papalexis, Robyn Park, Ernest Park, Rae Park, and Morgan Rebane

The cast included some very young talent.

Puppeteering duties were shared by several team members, including Rae Park, who had just turned one, which shows it's never too early to catch the puppetry bug (and Rae’s already got excellent instincts — watch out, world).

Huge thanks to Green Feather and Alex Griffin for creating such a wonderful space for play, collaboration, and scrappy puppet magic.

More dispatches soon.
